Cadaveric Hands-On Training · Head & Neck Surgery · Jazan
A two-day, hands-on cadaveric course in head and neck surgery — from surgical anatomy of the neck and thyroid and parathyroid preservation through parotidectomy, neck dissection, oral cavity resection, pectoralis major flap reconstruction and total laryngectomy — with faculty-supervised dissection throughout.
This two-day cadaveric course provides structured, hands-on training in head and neck surgical procedures. Day one progresses from a review of neck fascial anatomy through thyroidectomy with parathyroid and recurrent laryngeal nerve preservation, parotid and submandibular gland surgery, and local flap reconstruction.
Day two focuses on neck dissection classification and technique, oral cavity resection procedures including glossectomy and mandibulectomy, pectoralis major flap harvest and inset, and total laryngectomy with pharyngeal closure. The course is directed at surgeons and senior residents who wish to consolidate their understanding of head and neck surgical anatomy and build reproducible technique through cadaveric practice.
Fascial planes, triangles and nodal levels — the anatomical framework underpinning all head and neck procedures.
Total thyroidectomy with identification and preservation of the RLN, EBSLN and parathyroid blood supply.
Superficial and total parotidectomy with facial nerve landmarks, and submandibular gland excision.
Classification, indications and technique — selective (levels II–IV) and comprehensive dissection (levels I–V).
Partial and hemi-glossectomy, floor-of-mouth excision, marginal mandibulectomy, and pectoralis major flap.
Nasolabial and Estlander flaps for lip reconstruction, and total laryngectomy with pharyngeal closure and stoma.
Step-by-step practice of thyroid, salivary gland, neck, oral cavity and laryngeal procedures on human anatomical specimens.
All dissection sessions are supervised directly by course faculty, who review anatomical landmarks and share operative tips throughout.
Focused lectures precede each dissection block, providing anatomical and technical context to maximise bench learning.
The course concludes with closing remarks and distribution of certificates of completion on Day 2.
Day one covers neck anatomy, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, the parotid and submandibular glands and local flaps; day two advances to neck dissection, oral cavity resection, pectoralis major flap reconstruction and total laryngectomy. Every dissection block is preceded by a focused faculty lecture.
